Ask Why // Manchester School of Art Degree Show 2012 // Textile Design for Fashion

Here's the work that caught my eye from the textile design students. First up is Gavin Donnachie's work. I liked the overall theme and feel of Gavin's work. He had styled his garments to perfection with the model and location of his shots perfectly demonstrating a well thought out concept. Next was Laurie Maun. Laurie's work really stood, I think this was thanks to her photography. The shots were perfect for her garments showcasing them brilliantly and creating a context for her work, somewhere between a free-spirited grunge attitude and youthful innocence.Find out more about Laurie's work here.

Ask Why // Manchester School of Art Degree Show 2012 // Embroidery

The above shots are my favourite pieces from the embroidery students. The work varied greatly with whimsical pieces such as the very feminine lingerie by Freyia Porteous to the bold, almost gaudy installation by Hayley Godfrey that showcased a nostalgic collection of kitsch items. The use of texture in Jodie Heaton's work was a great contrast to the muted grey tones. Whilst Benjamin Fletcher's work incorporated several types of media and various imagery to create a piece laden with hidden symbolism. To find out more about the students work, including contact details, visit the BA (Hons) Embroidery degree page

Work in order of appearance, from top, Freyia Porteous, Jodie Heaton, Benjamin Fletcher and Hayley Godfrey.
